25/03/20112011Martinsville, Indiana, United StatesIndiana01Michael Phelps, a 15-year-old suspended student, returned to Martinsville West Middle School with a 9mm handgun. In the entrance of the school, Phelps shot 15-year-old Chance Jackson twice in the abdomen. Phelps fled the school and dropped the handgun in a field and was arrested shortly after. As a result, Jackson suffered from life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery three times, and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Phelps was convicted of attempted murder in August 2011, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 5 years of probation. He will be eligible for parole in 2026.Keating, Caitlin (March 25, 2011).
